The Best Time to Climb Kilimanjaro
The best times to climb Mount Kilimanjaro are January to March and June to October, which are known to be the prime climbing seasons, offering clearer skies and better trail conditions.

Moshi is the home of the Chaga tribe, having a rich culture. It is a laid-back town with lush surroundings, being the bustling gateway to Kilimanjaro. You will enjoy the Chaga culture museum, where you’ll look into the traditions of the region’s indigenous people. You will also get the chance to visit the coffee farms and learn how the bean-to-cup process takes place. There are also some beautiful and scenic hikes and loud, pouring waterfalls called the Materuni & Ndoro waterfalls. If you like, you can explore local markets for some fresh produce, crafts, and just a walk around the town.
Mkomazi National Park
This park is a hidden gem located between the Same district and the Lushoto district. It’s a remote park with a range of wildlife for you to see, like rhinos and elephants, and some plain savannah landscapes. Here, you can explore plenty of animals, including the Big Five. Yes, Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary is open to the public for seeing rhinos. Other animals of the Big Five, such as elephants, buffalo, lions, and leopards, are also available.
You can also spot other animals, including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and impalas. You also have better chances of spotting the African hunting dog because the Tsavo-Mkomazi ecosystem boasts plenty of these canids.
To get to Mkomazi, drive for one hour from Moshi heading eastwards. We highly recommend visiting it during the dry season (June to October) when it’s dry and cool.

Getting to Kilimanjaro
